Wednesdays are for finding motivation and reconnecting with the world.
It’s important as a designer to take time out regularly to appreciate the work of others and grow creatively, mentally and spiritually. I never used to do that when I was consumed by school. Those who know me personally know that I went back to school for pre-med after nursing school. I found myself spending all of my time outside of the hospital doing homework and prepping for the MCAT. I had a 4.0 GPA, and a clear path ahead but I lost myself.
When I started finding time to express myself, I found my real passion in life.
So what do I do? I sew, read articles in Women’s Wear Daily, surf Pinterest, draw and check in on Instagram. Shopping helps too. 😉 Today, I’d like to share with you my favorite Instagram accounts.
Aimee Song is an LA based Interior Designer and Fashion/Beauty/Lifestyle Blogger. Her style is fresh and glamorous with a little bit of rock and roll. I first read about her in an article on the top ten fashion bloggers to follow. She was the first blogger I followed and a major influence on my decision to launch theluxicon.co. Her voice is unique and uninhibited. She really made me want to share my voice with you.
Julie Sariñana founded Sincerely Jules in February 2009 as a creative outlet to express her thoughts, inspirations, style and love of everything cool. Jules chronicles her daily style, travels and life and continues to inspire and motivate her readers, one outfit at a time. In addition to her blog, Jules has contributed to and has been featured in: Glamour.com, Elle.com, E! News, Lucky Magazine, Teen Vogue and Cosmopolitan Latina. -Sincerelyjules.com
I love seeing her travel adventures on Instagram. Recently, she visited Cuba. It was like a blast from the past. My husband and I cannot wait to visit Cuba.
I found Lainy Hedaya through Instagram, but additionally, I read her blog. Her fashion sense is high end and unique. Her writing style is genuine and she reaches her audience in a way that makes her blog feel almost like an old friend. It’s also really promising to see a short woman succeeding in the world of fashion. Gone are the days of real woman looking at Amazonian types to find out what they should be wearing.
I look to the haute pursuit for composition. Vanessa Hong, creative director, has a well defined and thought out style. Her entire Instagram feed is consistent and cohesive. I’m also in love with the jewelry. Shop jewelry and other items on thpshop.co.
And her signature style? Everything about Hong screams minimalistic architecturalism; much of her wardrobe is comprised of black, white, and gray pieces, sharp lines, and monochromatic ensembles. “My style is very clean. You rarely will see me in patterns,” Hong says. “I think that aesthetic came through when I was developing my own style. A lot of my friends are in Beijing and work in the fashion industry, and everybody wears black. So I do a lot of black, white, gray, and blue.” –Who What Wear
The Haute Pursuit featured @nude_yogagirl one day and I was totally mesmerized by the juxtaposition of the model. I followed instantly. The 25 year old model and photographer molds herself into a work of art, literally.
Life is a journey. It is not a race or a contest.
We must celebrate and cheer for each other; the success of others should make us happy.
