Fragrance Trend That Will Make You Swoon

The time has come to welcome bon fires, roast marshmallows, drink cider and enjoy the nostalgic scents of crisp air and pumpkin spice that signify this delightful change in seasons.  Hello October.

Smells trigger feelings that carry us unconsciously through memorable experiences (hopefully a delightful memories), why shouldn’t fragrance do the same?  Scent is a personal signature and can leave a lasting impression.

I’ve watched this fragrance trend for a while now, but only recently did I stick my nose in.  Replica by Maison Margiela has been recreating olfactory memories since 2012.

Marked with its provenance and period, each fragrance recreates moments and olfactive memories, triggering images that echo the collective unconscious as well as our own personal history.

This is big news for perfume.  Who doesn’t want to trigger memories of lazy Sunday mornings and walks on the beach?  Recently, I was gifted a sample of Jazz Club.  The scent as described by Maison Margiela: immortalized the masculine and exhilarating ambiance of a Brooklyn jazz club. The balmy base scent of musk, vanilla, tonka bean, vetiver, and tobacco leaves combine to evoke a familiar but forgotten moment—a night’s sojourn to a hidden jazz club.

I do not care that it’s a men’s fragrance, I too have fond memories of sharing the occasional cigar and sweet vanilla cigarette smoke wafting our way in a small lounge in the ancient neighborhood of Marais, Paris.  Please, transport me back to these wonderful memories my husband and I have shared over the years.  My curiosity took over as I spritzed myself.  My sinuses were not accosted in a literal way by smells of tobacco and leather; I was rather pleasantly surprised the scent’s light complexity.   I can honestly say that I did experience a rush of familiar emotion.

No matter what your scent profile, Maison Margiela has you covered.

Get the most out of your trial experience with discovery sets for her and for him.

What’s your favorite new fragrance?
