These mascara tricks are, hands down, the best tip I’ve come across. Not only does my mascara apply better, I’m able to get the more uses out of every tube before I have to toss it.
Lashes are my secret to an effortless natural make-up look. I always use mascara even if I’m not wearing very much eye shadow or eyeliner. So, I go through mascara like water.
For tips on growing your lashes this long; yes mine are 100% real, and tips on applying your mascara, take a look at my more detailed post on lashes. Lash growth is only part of it, applying mascara like a pro is crucial.
- Run your water really hot and place your, tightly sealed, mascara under the hot water until it’s nice and warm. Your mascara will glide on like butter and layer more easily. Heating your mascara will also give you more uses before it runs out because the formula is thinner. You’ll notice your mascara applies more thin and doesn’t clump as readily.Today I’m wearing my fav mascara from Benefit cosmetics, Yes They’re Real $24.
- Once you’ve reached the point that you have little to no mascara left, you’ve got a couple of options, which is good because this always happens at inconvenient times like when I’m traveling. You can run your sink really hot, then take the wand out of the tube of mascara and rinse it clean under the hot water. Shake off a little excess water, but not too much. Screw it back in the tube, shake it against your hand. The heat and small amount of water loosens the mascara dried up in the tube and not only gives you more uses out of the almost empty tube, but it also makes it apply easier. I like this trick and I use it at the end of every tube. I’m not sure if it’s a good idea for waterproof mascara, I don’t use waterproof, so if you try it, let me know how it goes. The other trick you can try to extend your shelf life is to put a few drops of eye drops in the mascara tube and then heat it, give it a few pumps and you’re back in business. The latter is definitely the cleaner of the two approaches, so that’s something to consider if you’ve got sensitive eyes. I have tried both and they both work well.
