What does it mean to dress for your body type?
It means celebrating your best features and drawing attention away from the features about which you are sensitive. If you have trouble figuring out which of your features to showcase, ask a friend for help. Odds are your bestie knows exactly which features are your most flattering. Style is about finding what works for you and running with it.
When I was a personal trainer, I used to talk to clients about their goals and it never mattered what shape and size, all woman had concerns about their bodies. I wanted them to enjoy the transformation and appreciate their bodies rather than focusing on just the end goal or an unrealistic societal expectation. I would ask them to judge themselves as they would a perfect stranger passing them on the street.
Think about it; if you saw a woman who looked just like you walking by on the street in a stylish outfit, would you think pick apart her appearance the way you do yours? Probably not. You would think she’s got her life together and she’s going places! Fashion is about expressing the best version of yourself and when you get it right, it can be quite empowering.
Have you ever decided on an outfit and then been completely surprised by how badly it missed the mark when you see it on yourself? It happens to us all! You are definitely not alone. I enjoy the thrill of taking risks when it comes to fashion. I love stepping out of the house in something edgy that I know is going to be a show stopper. It usually works out for me. Occasionally I experience that moment when I wonder what the heck was I thinking, but that’s just part of the fun for me.
It’s exciting to have this blog as a platform from which to share my style with the world. Bringing women the joy that I feel when I know I’ve hit the mark is important. I want to share the feeling that I get when I step into my closet and I know I’m getting ready to have a great day. I can share how to style my body type all day long, but I’m prepared to bring style to all women. Join me on Tuesdays from now on for styling tips by body type. Through my favorite style icons of all shapes and sizes, I will share and explain their successes (I don’t like gabbing on about fashion failures- it could be me!).
I want you to be able to use your closet to say what you want about yourself to the world. You don’t have to go spend a fortune with a stylist to learn what works for you; I got your back!
