One of the best things I started doing for my skin is chemical peels. Peels improve the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and roughness. I did my first couple of peels in preparation for my wedding and by the time the big day rolled around, my coworkers were commenting on my glowing and radiant skin. They thought it was the joy and excitement, but truthfully, planning your own wedding is extremely stressful and I was barely getting any sleep in the weeks prior to my wedding. I credit the peels for my beautiful skin.
People are often surprised that I do peels because they have heard peels are bad for you skin.
Not all peels are created equal.
Your aesthetician will help you choose the right peel for your skin type, but there are different levels of peels, so if you’re concerned, you can always start with a less abrasive peel and see how your skin responds.
Post Peel Day 1
Not much going on with my face 24 hours after the peel. It feels super tight, so I’m excited for it to start peeling. There’s a little yellow around my hairline from the Retinoic Acid because I didn’t wash my hair this morning. Under the florescent lights of the hospital, I’m seeing how badly I needed this peel and I’m super excited.
Post Peel Day 2
When I lift my brows, you can actually see the tightness. I can’t wait for it to just crack!
Your face will always peel first around your mouth. It’s starting!
Post Peel Day 3
Here we go! I can usually count on day 3 to be my heaviest peel day. I do my peels on Wednesday or Thursday, so I can have the weekend off to peel in private.
This one obviously isn’t me, but I wanted to share it with you. My skin lifted nicely this time, probably from the dermaplaning prep Renee did, but I have, in the past, had smaller flakes like this that were harder to conceal.
With this peel, my flakes were similar to the above photo, but not quite so large. You can see how they would be easier to trim away or get them to lye flat with moisturizer. I recommend trying to take a little staycation or work from home, if you can, during your first peel. I took a chance by working Friday and rocked my weird face around my coworkers. I was glad, though, that I didn’t have to see patients that day.
Post Peel Day 4
You can see that with a lot of moisturizer and trimming the flakes down after they lifted more, it’s not so obvious that I’m molting.
Later in the day. Take a look (below) at what a difference moisturizer makes.
Post Peel Day 5
Back in the office today.
No worries. You can’t actually see my peels unless you’re up close.
Post Peel Day 6
The worst of it is by far over. I’ll just have these little flakes that catch my makeup for a few more days.
When I back the camera up, you can see that my skin is already beginning to look healthier than before the peel.
Pretty much done peeling!
It feels wonderful to wear less makeup. I don’t need it when my skin is this healthy.
