In college, I studied non-Western cultures focusing on China, India and Africa. I learned the importance of the lotus blossom to Asian cultures. The lotus blossom represents the beauty to grows in murky water. No matter what chaos surrounds you, you can always choose to behave beautifully and unsullied by your environment.
That belief quickly became the mantra by which I lived my life. I began wearing a lotus blossom necklace, below, daily. My work environment was currently not great and I needed the extra boost.
Putting positive energy into the world worked out for me. Shortly after I began wearing the lotus necklace, above, I met my now husband. I noticed he was wearing the Om, another symbol of Hinduism, around his neck and when I pointed out my lotus necklace, it sparked conversation that eventually led us down the aisle.
Over time, I decided to go for a less obvious interpretation of my belief and I started wearing a simple lotus petal, below, on my finger. I get many comments on my ring and people are often delighted when I share the deeper meaning behind it.
